The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed the strength, unity, and resilience of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he officially handed over the newly commissioned Oyo State PDP Secretariat to the National Leadership of the party under the chairmanship of Dr. Kabiru. Tanimu Turaki (SAN). The historic event marked another milestone in the party’s steady growth and institutional consolidation in Oyo State and beyond.

Addressing party faithful and dignitaries at the official handover ceremony, Governor Makinde stated emphatically that the PDP has taken decisive steps to rid itself of internal elements he described as “vagabonds” who were causing distractions and unrest within the party. According to him, the party has successfully expelled such individuals and will no longer tolerate acts capable of undermining its collective vision, discipline, and progress.

The Governor assured members and supporters that the PDP remains firmly rooted and unstoppable, stressing that the party will not succumb to what he termed the “evil works” of those who neither contributed to the party’s growth nor respected its ideals. He challenged detractors to reflect on their contributions to the party, reiterating that PDP’s strength lies in loyalty, service, and commitment to the people.

Reflecting on past political alliances, the governor admitted that he had once worked closely with some of the individuals now working against the party, but stressed that he had since distanced himself from them. The first thing I want to say is that, in Yorubaland, we always say that if you see a house or a compound that is peaceful, it is because the vagabond in that house has not grown up. I once dined and wined with them. I even puked with them, but I have repented, I believe strongly in the judiciary. At the end of the day, justice will be done, and the PDP will get justice,” the governor said.

Governor Makinde also used the occasion to congratulate the state leadership of the PDP and party members across Oyo State for the remarkable successes recorded over the past six years. He attributed these achievements to unity of purpose, purposeful leadership, and the collective resolve of party stakeholders to place good governance and party cohesion above personal interests.

Described as the leader of the PDP in the South West and a nationally respected figure within the party, Engr. Seyi Makinde presided over an event that drew national and state party leaders, as well as dignitaries from various walks of life. The impressive turnout underscored the significance of the occasion and reaffirmed PDP’s enduring presence and growing influence in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
